Dr. Claudio Gil Interview

How to Ace the Sitting-Rising Test

Hello Friends...

I hope you find these items of interest.

Your questions answered in my video interview with Dr. Claudio Gil Araújo, creator of the Sitting-Rising Test

My first post on SecondFifty was about the Sitting-Rising Test (SRT). SRT is a great assessment tool because it’s a simple way to test overall functional mobility. It also happens to be a reliable predictor of all-cause mortality in men and women over fifty. That’s right, your ability to sit and then rise from the floor is a good indicator of your overall health and longevity. It takes less than a minute to do, but it’s not that easy.

Many readers had questions about the test. So I went straight to the source for answers.

Dr. Araújo, the Brazilian researcher who developed the SRT, has performed the assessment over 9,000 times in his clinic in Rio De Janeiro. Claudio Gil was kind enough to provide more detail around the SRT, and importantly, some insight into why otherwise fit people struggle to successfully sit and then rise from the floor. He also suggested the four areas of focus needed to improve one’s score.

We don’t have to go crazy with this stuff, but surely we need to grant it a new urgency. Use the next 60 days to tweak things a bit. You’re eating more at home, so you control the process. What better opportunity to do a reset and get prepared for a possible second wave?

SENIOR PUNCTUATION

What has happened to my back?

The answer is all too stark

Over the years It has become

Curved like a question mark

This question mark posture

I have really come to hate

I’d prefer an exclamation point

That stands up nice and straight
