The Farmer

The Farmer

That’s not a picture of me. It’s a pic of Farmer Dave. You’ve probably never heard of Dave Van Dame. And while he doesn’t grow anything, he’s known as The Farmer for reasons that will become apparent if you stay with me here. Dave’s passion for the slopes and his minimalist lifestyle checked the boxes for physical, spiritual, and emotional fulfillment. Exercise and movement were built in. Dave was 73 when this short vignette about him was filmed. And, as vigorous as he was in 2021, Dave died just eight months later of bladder cancer. You can do everything right and still get hit by things outside your control. Dave was fortunate to craft a life he loved early, and to enjoy the years he was given to the fullest. My takeaway: Keep it simple, and don't take health for granted. Develop a hobby or sport that is fulfilling and naturally incorporates physical activity. That way, exercise won't be a separate chore. Don't delay prioritizing fitness so you can enjoy your later years and retirement. And more broadly, get clear on what’s important in life, and do more of it. Here's the 3-minute video, below...

FEATURED STRETCH

Seated Pigeon

Here’s a simple and very accessible  stretch that you can do anytime. It’s easy to get into and not very intense, but it’s a nice hip opener and great for hamstrings and glutes.
